The department of Nièvre belongs to the Burgundy region which some still refer to as the Bourgogne region. It is located in the centre of France, and has borders with Allier (in the Auvergne), Saone-et-Loire, Yonne, Cote d’Or, Cher and Loiret (in the Centre region). Nevers is the capital of the department, the other large towns are Chateau-Chinon, Clamecy and Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire.
